"What are Attending Physician Statements?"
Attending Physician's Statement (APS): Information provided by a proposed insured's physician covering medical history and results of medical examinations. It is used to determine the appropriate underwriting classification for the proposed insured.
More details: It is the statement of the physician who treated the patient for a particular illness or accident. Underwriters often ask for an attending physician's statement regarding illnesses and injuries appearing on a life or health insurance application to determine the exact nature of the problem, the duration of the problem and/or the prognosis for recovery. Claims adjusters use attending physician's statements in determining coverage and payments.
