Will A Budget Deficit Threaten Elderly Health Insurance?
It is the desire of most elderly citizens to remain in their homes and as independent as possible for as long as possible. Unfortunately, this is being threatened by the deficit in Florida’s budget which may lead to cutbacks affecting senior health insurance programs. Programs which allow low income shut ins with things like cooking and cleaning which they may have difficulty performing on their own. Without assistance funded by the state, these low income seniors are forced to dip into their own wallets and try to pay for the services themselves, or face being forced to lose their independence and go into an assisted living facility. Is it fair to cut back services such as these to improve the budget? Are there other ways to save money without targeting such a vulnerable sector of the population?
