COBRA In Florida

Have you recently lost your job? Many people in Florida do not undertand what COBRA really is? You would know if you have had it. Many Floridians do not realize the true cost of COBRA in Florida, as you now are paying 100% of the cost. Your employer isn’t picking up any of the cost. When you are stunned by news of losing their jobs, laid-off employees often are asked to quickly make a highly complex decision: What should they do about health insurance?

Should they opt to continue their employer coverage by shelling out big bucks for a policy known as COBRA? Seek an individual policy in the open market? Go without insurance?

In this struggling economy, growing numbers of workers face these tough decisions. They often must compare COBRA with dozens, even hundreds, of options in the individual market — and do so in a short time.

What does one do if the company they worked for automatically shuts down on a Monday morning the second day of the new month, without prior warning and your health insurance was covered only until the 31 day of the previous month………..and you are now without health insurance…. and now I cannot find any affordable health insurance…. let alone ANY insurance at all because I have a pre-existing condition. AND I live alone AND I’m petrified if I become ill…. what does one do in that case????

    Hi Kimberly,

You can get a conversion policy. Make sure you don’t lapse your coverage for more than 63 days. Florida Health Insurance Web helped me when I was in a similar situation.
