Computer Glitch Causing Problems for Kidcare

In Daytona Beach, FL, computer errors are responsible for a number of Florida KidCare participants to be dropped from the program, leaving officials scrambling to contact families and get them reenrolled. It is reported that a change in the system caused a glitch which resulted in a large proportion of notices not to be sent out. The notices ranged from late premium notices, to renewal notices, to requests for more information to complete an application. The error has caused a great deal of problems for parents across the state, with people paying out of pocket for health care and being unable to fill prescriptions due to a denial in coverage. This may have affected as many as 62,000 participants, all of whom are now being contacted. Will this error permanantly damage Floridian’s confidence in the system? What long term affects will this system malfunction cause? What could have been done to prevent it?
