Court to Settle Records Dispute

Whether to prove a point or just cause trouble, Joel Chandler has certainly achieved the latter now that the Manatee County School Board has requested court assistance in settling a dispute. Last October, Chandler requested records on 6,000 of the school board’s employees and their dependents enrolled in the district’s health insurance plan. Information on these people including names, adresses, phone numbers and more would be made accessible to him if the permission were granted. Chandler has made the same request from numerous school boards across the state of Florida and has even filed lawsuits against a number of them.  Chandler claims that he does not want the information for any ill purposes, he simply wanted to make a point and be an advocate for government transparency. He even has a blog at www.iamtroublemaker.com, in which he discusses choosing the “most invasive and controversial thing” he could think of doing by requesting the records. Do you think that the records of those enrolled in a publicly funded health plan should be subject to being available for everyone to see?
