Deadly Lack of Insurance

Nothing seems more heartbreaking than when someone dies a seemingly preventable death. Such was the case for a South Florida heart attack patient who suffered a stroke when she could no longer afford her prescription drugs and stopped taking them altogether. Going cold turkey off of many medications is dangerous, but it can be especially deadly for the elderly and those who have sufffered a major illness. As prices for prescription drugs continue to skyrocket, as many as 30% of Americans are cutting back on their prescription drugs, or being forced not to fill them altogether. This is often due to a lack of health insurance, but sometimes even people with coverage still cannot afford the heavy price of these drugs. What needs to be done so that people don’t have to die just because they can’t afford the medicine that will keep them alive?
