Depsite the Health Craze, Americans Remain Unhealthy

It’s no wonder that health care costs continue to rise considering that Americans on the whole are unhealthier than they have ever been. The practice of unhealthy lifestyles including the use of drugs and alcohol and a poor diet has lead the health of the nation to decline again for the fourth year in a row. Among rankings of individual state’s, Vermont proved to be the healthiest and Louisiana was the least healthy. Florida, sadly, sits at number 45, very close to the bottom of the list. Instead of just focusing on getting Americans covered with insurance and improving the quality of care, shouldn’t we be addressing the biggest issue of all? If people were practicing healthy lifestyle habits, the rate of expensive and preventable diseases such as diabetes and heart disease would go down dramatically as would health care costs. What can be done to shape up America?
