Florida Businesses Forced to Make Cuts

Even before the nation’s current economic downturn began, Florida was high on the list of states who’s residents lacked health insurance. Florida’s small businesses have long been struggling to manage the skyrocketing costs of health care, and now that business has slowed down even further, many companies are being forced to cut out health insurance benefits altogether. Even companies who understand the importance of keeping their employees happy and productive have had to make the unpleasant decision to reduce benefits, and in some cases, thin out their work force. Some businesses have been able to maintain catastrophic coverage for their employees, or offer plans with high deductibles and require the employee to contribute a greater percentage to the cost of premium. What will happen to Florida’s small businesses and their employees if the economy does not recover soon?
