Florida Health Insurance Agency Reports On Cover Florida
The Charlie Crist Florida health plan, Cover Florida, the “health insurance” policy offered by Gov. Charlie Crist included promises to provide subsidies that would help low income Florida residents pay for their health insurance. “That’s not exactly what happened,” said Morgan Moran, a health insurance consultant. “Cover Florida was supposed to be guarantee coverage for everyone; however, a loophole has allowed insurance carriers to exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions, emergency room visits, and inpatient care.”
What do you think? Does Cover Florida meet the needs of most low income Floridians?

It’s a shame that there is no system in effect that will prevent the large insurance companies from preying upon people in low income situations. If I were in the position of choosing a low cost insurance plan that offered very little coverage and no emergency room coverage, a high cost plan that offered better coverage, or food/gasoline, I would have to choose the food/gasoline. People can gamble on not becoming sick and sometimes win, but you can’t live without the basic staples. There needs to be a way that people who can only afford the basic neccessaties can get a plan that at least covers them in emergencies, if nothing else.

It is obviously a failure if the intent was to insure low income people and cover pre-existing conditions. Low income people with conditions that are exlcuded defeats the purpose of helping those people that can barely survive in the first place.

Yeah, I’m not sure if our Florida goverment really knows what is going on with healthcare in our state. They should probably take a closer look at states like Massachusetts, Maine, those guaratee issue states that cover all of their residents. Why do you think Florida is so different? Will an Obama as president help that?

Just another example of politicians not understanding the facts. Crist needs an advisor because plans like Cover Florida just make him look uneducated on the facts.
