Florida Health Insurance offers “Cover Florida” Plan

Have you heard about our states new mandated health plan?  The “Cover Florida” Plan?  I don’t think many know when and how this will go into place.  What does this plan cover?  How much will it cost?  Will Floridians take to this new program?  The “Cover Florida” Plan,  which offers “bare-bones” health insurance to low-income residents, likely will not reduce the number of uninsured, according to a report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Orlando Sentinel reports. According to the report, “Bare-bones plans provide limited or no coverage for important benefits such as inpatient care, and they often have high deductibles or other cost-sharing charges.” The report states, “When low-income people do enroll in bare-bones plans, they face a significant risk of experiencing high out-of-pocket costs.”

What are your thoughts on this program?

Well, something is better than nothing at all. The question is how much to pay for not very much.
    It may give false comfort.

I have heard about these limited benefit plans. When are they going into place? It seems like there has been a ton of chatter, but no answers in how you can get these programs. Do we contact the department of financial services?

What’s the point of offering bare-bones coverage to people who can’t afford it? If it offers little coverage and high deductibles and something happens to them, if they couldn’t afford premiums, then they won’t be able to afford the deductibles. It seems silly to offer people insurance just to say they’re insured when really it makes them little better off than they were with no insurance.

It sounds like the state just wants to insure all of these low income people with high deductible plans that they can barely afford, just so politicians can say that Florida has one of the lowest levels of people without health insurance. With these limited plans, are they even going to cover what these low income people need it to cover?

This is going to have information on the plans, when and if….remains to be seen. But you can sign up and get a email when information is released,

Cover Florida is better than not having insurance at all. I think we will someone fund programs like these rather than wars. We have more money than we know what to do with in America. Sometimes goes to the wrong spots.

I’ve read your responses, but I’ve also done my homework. As usual you get a lot of people that don’t know what they are talking about. If you don’t have any medical coverage which I have not had since 2000 and someone throws you a bone TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. What you are basically saying is you want what other people have and can afford even though you can’t afford it? I’m very interested in this program and no it’s not free but it gives you choices. If you have a job that offers no medical (which is a lot of companies today) even though a law was put in place a few years ago that if you had at least 7 fulltime employees you had to offer medical. Well if no one is policing people to make sure they comply what’s the point. Also, a lot of people got around this by keeping a bunch of part timers. So these plans give you a choice of at least getting to go to the doctor or get your prescriptions filled for a nominal price. This will even work for part timers who a lot of times don’t even get the option of benefits. If you plan to be a hospital goer, well it’s going to cost you more but then a hospital stay today COSTS you. So what I’m going to do is take what I need most and can afford for now and upgrade to hospitalization coverage later.
