Florida was once touted as a national model for its children’s healthcare program, but now is seen as one of the most complicated and difficult programs in the country. The Florida KidCare program which provides health insurance assitance to low income families has been long in need of an overhaul. With more than 5,000 children being dropped from Kidcare over the last six years, legislators are hopeful that changes to the program will mean more children are provided for. The legislation to make these changes was passed last week and is now simply waiting on approval from the governor. Changes include less paperwork, shorter wait times, and less severe penalties for late premium payments.
