Florida Produce and Sunshine Not Enough to Make Residents Healthy
One would think that the abundance of Florida sunshine and fresh produce would lead to healthy citizens. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. Florida has been ranked as one of the unhealthiest states at number 45, and it appears to be getting worse as it dropped from 41st place last year. Ironically though, it does not appear to be the fault of obesity or smoking that leads to this ranking. Rates of both those elements have gone down in recent years. What appears to be plaguing the state is an extroardinarily high rate of uninsured citizens. In this respect, the state is ranked 48th, meaning only 2 states have a higher rate of people without insurance coverage. The numbers are especially frightening among the young, as a shocking one in six children has no health insurance coverage. What does Florida need to do to turn this situation around?
