Flu Shots the Best Insurance?
It’s not too late to get a flu shot, as the cold and flu season looms upon us. While the shot takes roughly two weeks to build immunity, the flu season can extend all the way into the spring, making later better than never. People in high risk categories, such as older people, those with diabetes, or heart disease, are especially encouraged to take advantage of one of the most effective ways to prevent the flu. While merely an unpleasant experience for most, costing time off from work and the cost of medication, for others it can be life threatening. While the shots are not guaranteed protection against the flu, they will at least result in a milder form of the affliction. And the more people who are vaccinated, the fewer people will be apt to spread the disease to coworkers and family, as it is highly contagious. Roughly 200,000 people are hospitalized with the flu each year, and about 36,000 will die from it. Do you get a flu shot each year, and do you recommend it to others? Is the shot easily available to people to encourage them to get it?
