Health Insurance Consumers Pay Over A Billion In Mandates

The state of Massachusetts health insurance costs are on the increase.  Their laws state that everyone must have a health insurance plan in place or they will be fined.  Do these state mandates on consumer health insurance progams cost residents of Massachusetts?  You bet, they nearly cost consumers $1.3 billion per year.

The recent study peformed by the Massachusetts Division of Health Care Finance and Policy concluded 12 cents of every dollar spent on health insurance premiums in Massachusetts goes toward paying for the state mandated benefits.  Will that number rise to $2 billion next year?  Are these state mandates worth it?

People in the United States that would like to have Universal Healthcare need to understand that a state like Massachusetts requires every health insurance plan to cover nearly 26 specific treatments and procedures.  This mandates include alcoholism counseling and hair prosthesis.  Are these necessary mandates that everyone has to pay for?  When does personal responsibility come into play?  Do you think we need a bigger government here?  Let us know what you think…

    This really puts things into perspective on the mandate issue. I didn’t realize that these sorts of health insurance mandates cost so much money. I wonder what other states costs cosumers. We all know that Massachusetts is a liberal state. What about some of those red states, like Florida.
