Health Insurance & Hospital Shoppers
Health care has always been a nebulous area for many folks who are just accustomed to plucking out their health insurance card and not having to really think about the costs of procedures. But for the more and more folks without Florida insurance, the cost of the treatment becomes all that much more important, as the money is coming out of their own pockets. Strangely though, hospitals often cannot even tell their patients, or are not willing to tell their patients, how much a procedure will cost until after it is done. That makes having a scary health problem all that much scarier when you don’t know what the financial hit will be. This however, appears to be changing. More and more states are now requiring that hospitals post prices for their treatments and procedures online which will allow patients to compare hospitals and “shop around.” Some people are fearful of this tactic though, as a mere price is not an indicator of the quality of service. Will people opt for “cheaper” hospitals and sacrifice quality of care? Will hospitals be forced to compete by lowering prices, and will that result in a decrease of the quality of care?
