Legislation to Protect Breast Cancer Sufferers
New legislation is in the works to protect breast cancer victims by allowing the physician to decide how long to continue with treatment rather than the health insurance companies. A senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is working to bring about the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which hopefully would end the practice of sending women home immediately after receiving a masectomy because the insurance company will not pay for further treatment. The bill would allow a patient and her doctor to make sound decisions regarding how long to recover in the hospital from surgery and when care should be continued at home. Do you think this legislation will pass?
