Massage Therapy’s Place in the World of Health Insurance
For Vivian Madison-Mahoney, saying that massage is not a legitamate profession or worthy of belonging in the field of practiced medicine is a slap in the face. Vivian has been in the profession for over 25 years and serves as the insurance consultant for the Florida State Massage Therapy Association. Attending a recent Health conference and representing the more than 5,000 members of the association, Vivian was shocked to be told by a Washington Post reporter that she basically needed to get a real job as a physical therapist or something like that, as massage was not any kind of profession. Vivian defends massage as an extremely valid avenue of treating the sick and injured and attended the conference to create more connections with insurance companies to have massage included when prescribed by physicians for medically necessary treatment. Do you think that massage belongs in the world of prescribed medicine and that it should be covered under Florida health insurance policies?
