Twenty Percent of College Students Without Health Insurance

While some Universities, such as the University of Florida, have enacted rules that require students to carry health insurance before being allowed to attend classes, as many as 20% of college students across the nation do not have health insurance coverage. Much of this stems from the fact that college aged people are often young and healthy and feel like they can get away without having coverage. Unfortunately, it is also this sense of invincibility which gets them into trouble, as people in this age range are often prone to accidents and injury. One such medical disaster can leave these youngsters in a major financial hole, even before they have begun. What can be done to increase the rate at which college students, and their non-student peers, acquire and maintain health insurance?
