Health Insurance Help From United Way

Accessing health insurance is one of the most pressing issues facing Florida families right now, and in these difficult time, a greater number of people have been contacting the United Way for help. Now, in an effort to extend that help to a broad population of Floridians, the United Way is offering a prescription drug discount card. The card is available to everyone, regardless of insurance coverage, and is accepted by roughly 95% of pharmacies without any additional paperwork or premiums involved. The cards can be used by people with insurance to purchase medications not covered by their existing plan, and those without insurance will be able to purchase their prescriptions at a discounted rate, perhaps allowing them access to drugs they would otherwise not be able to afford. 40% of Americans in recent times have reduced the number of prescription drugs or eliminated filling them altogether due to financial constraints. The United Way hopes to reverse this trend. What do you think of the program and its impact on the community?
