Where to Turn for Help

Here’s proof that people who have lost their job and health insurance often have no idea where to turn for help with ongoing medical problems, other than the emergency room, based on a letter sent in to the Miami Herald recently. Sonia Garcia wrote to ask for advice after her and her husband had been laid off and did not know where to turn for help with their health issues, other than to go the the hospital. The Herald responded with advice to seek assistance at the nearest Jackson Health System facility, and to bring proof of unemployment. It would seem that Miami offers assistance to those in such situations as a less expensive alternative to the emergency room. How can more people be made aware of the other options available to them, aside from ER’s which drive up costs for everyone?
